How to image to text
Extract text from photos, screenshots and complex scanned documents using multilingual OCR, document clean-up, rotation and large-page tiling. 11 OCR languages · automatic document contrast and adaptive threshold · page layout choices · 90°/180°/270° rotation · small-text upscaling · up to 36MP images · up to 12 files · TXT, CSV, JSON, TSV and hOCR where available.
Follow these steps
- Choose scans or screenshots, then select the language and page layout that match your document.
- Try automatic document clean-up, rotation and small-text enhancement; compare the processed preview with the original.
- Extract text, review the result and estimated OCR confidence, then download a transcript, CSV, JSON, TSV or available layout markup.
Know the limitations
OCR is probabilistic; tiny characters, handwriting, dense tables, poor focus and languages with complex scripts can produce recognition errors. Uploads are limited to 30MB per file and 36 megapixels; large scans are segmented to avoid exhausting browser memory. Language models must download successfully before recognition.
Improve OCR accuracy
Screenshots with clear printed characters usually provide better OCR results than angled photos. Rotate or resize scans first, choose the correct language, and review small numbers manually because decimal points and letters can be confused.
Real-world examples and quality tips
A receipt can be extracted as editable text for reference. The CSV export keeps one record per uploaded image, but it does not recreate complex table columns. Poor lighting, handwriting and mixed languages reduce accuracy.

image to text FAQ
Can image to text recognize long complex documents?+
It can recognize large supported scanned images by processing bounded regions, but columns, handwriting, tables and very small text may need correction. There is a practical 30MB/36MP file limit.
Does advanced preprocessing improve accuracy?+
It can improve text contrast, orientation and readability for some scans; photos with unusual lighting may work better with original colors. Results depend on the source.
Which OCR languages are available?+
English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Japanese and simplified Chinese require downloadable Tesseract language data.
What can I download?+
Plain text, an image/section CSV, JSON and Tesseract TSV output; hOCR is available for a single unsegmented scan when the recognition engine returns it.
Is image to text fully private?+
Image pixels are processed inside the browser using the loaded OCR engine. OCR libraries and language models are downloaded from a CDN; there is no Picvento image-upload endpoint in this workspace.
