Photos can contain camera settings, creation dates, copyright notices and GPS coordinates. Removing metadata can reduce accidental sharing of private details, but pixels themselves may still reveal a location. JPEG cleaning strips optional marker segments without recompressing image pixels; other browser-supported images are exported through canvas and may change encoding.
- Add one or more JPEG, PNG or WebP photos.
- Check the source file names and sizes, then choose full metadata removal or JPEG cleaning that retains ICC color profiles.
- Run the cleaner, compare file size and download the cleaned copies. Double-check sensitive images before sharing.
Accuracy, privacy and limitations
Metadata removal cannot erase text or locations visible in image pixels. Re-encoded PNG/WebP may change file size or color handling; lossless JPEG mode preserves compressed scan data. HEIC is not supported.
Practical advice for a cleaner result
Always keep a copy of your source files. Compare the new image at 100% zoom, test it in the application where it will be used, and make one change at a time when a result looks unexpected. Browser memory limits depend on device and image dimensions.
remove exif data FAQ
Are photos sent to a server?+
No. Processing is performed in your browser; library resources may be fetched separately.
Is JPEG quality preserved?+
JPEG marker removal leaves compressed image scan bytes untouched.
Can you remove just GPS while keeping all EXIF fields?+
Not in this version. The safe supported mode removes whole metadata groups to avoid leaving location tags behind.
